This lovely full bodied Burrowing Owl was sighted along a quiet road at sunset in Brentwood, Ca.
The Burrowing Owl is the only owl in North America that nests in underground burrows. Despite its name, however this owl does not usually excavate its burrow. When they perch at the entrance to their burrows, they can look very similar to the ground squirrels.
